When it comes to XCOM 2, Ranger is one of the most common, easy to handle, and effective units you can command and play with. Ranger is equipped with either a shotgun as their primary weapon and a sword as a secondary weapon. Rangers have high damage output and are always ready to spill out opponent blood. We here at TechNinjaPro are going to guide you about the “XCOM 2 Ranger Build” factor in XCOM 2. Let’s have a look at the three types of rangers.
Basic Ranger
To start, the Ranger class will only have one ability that makes them striking, though this will change as they level up and specialize. It is highly recommended to follow one or the other specialization paths, as mixing and matching decrease their respective effectiveness.
Ranger Ability
- Ranger will attack any enemy within movement range with a sword attack.
Scout Ranger
Ranger Ability
- When the squad is revealed, Scout Ranger remains hidden
- When hidden, gains +25 aim and +25 critical hit chance when attacking enemies.
- This soldier immediately enter concealment once per mission
- If Scout Ranger kills an enemy on the player’s turn, they are granted a bonus move.
- If Scout Ranger did not attack this, hunker downward automatically.
- Scout Ranger fire twice in a row at an enemy.
From the abilities mentioned above, it becomes clear how one should implement a Scout Ranger class soldier. These units are made for toxic ambush tactics and make perfect use of the cover-up mechanic for shocking attacks that enemies never see coming.
Assault Ranger
Assault Ranger is specialized in rushing in and dealing as much damage to foes at close range. The passives for an Assault Ranger allow soldiers in this class to deal the encounter damage out of any player unit in the gameplay with excellent efficiency and the ability to undo enemy counterattacks.
Rangers are a efficient to test out new and experimental gear. Let’s discuss the recommended perks for your early builds.
SHOTGUN: Ranger Build
If you want to build a Shotgun Ranger then keep on reading. It is one of the most powerful and mighty units you’ll get to play with in XCOM 2. The extended stealth gained from Phantom allows you to constantly apply recon to the enemy. The flawless and perfect intelligence that you’ll gain from the extended stealth from Phantom will let you position and ambush your target accurately.
The Shadowstep combined with Run and Gun allows you to hit whomever you want to. The shotgun blasts will be accurate and the attack factor will increase rapidly.
The abilities like Untouchable and Implacable will get you out of those situations that you didn’t want to be in. Your character will get out of dangerous situations like a charged lion.
The best one so far is obviously the Rapid Fire factor. This will double your damage with every single turn at the paltry i.e. 15 aim penalty. The addition of Perception will let you fire from a longer distance.
The suite of Spider or Wraith mobility with Grapple the combination of power and speed of your shotgun.
Shotguns are the most effective at close range. Applying Talon Rounds with Laser Sight will increase the criticality of your shotgun.
The Autoloader ability will offset your ammo dumping and make you ready to kill at everytime and all time.
- Gear: Talon Rounds, Spider/Wraith Suit
- Accessories: Laser Sight, Autoloader, Speed or Perception, Hair Trigger
- Abilities: Shadowstep, Run and Gun, Rapid Fire, Phantom, Slash, Implacable, Untouchable
BLADEMASTER: Ranger Build
When it comes to XCOM 2 Ranger Builds, we know that there can be huge variety for these kinds of builds. Everyone in the gaming community has their own point of view and they tend to agree or disagree on a number of factors.
Melee Ranger does not have the same attack capabilities as a Shotgun Ranger. If you get overrun by melee attacks then grabbing a Bladmaster is given. If you go on to grab Bladestorm then the Ranger will get a huge control over his instant surroundings and combining the Untouchables will provide protection from the rest of the enemies after your aggressive charges leave you revealed to enemies.
Combine Perception, Conditioning, and Speed to deal with the charge of enemies by moving further away from the enemies. You will never miss an attack from a sword, and the strike will always land. In addition, you will gain extra health for the survival against brutal melee attacks.
One of the best factors that you can utilize is the Reaper. Let’s say that all of the enemies around your Ranger get low health. During that time if the enemies are in your Blademaster’s Range, you can chain kill all of the enemies in front of you in one go. Applying Mobility and Grappling will give you a boost to achieve that chain kill.
Applying Laser Sight and Repeater is given. Using Repeater means that whenever a new pod appears in the sight seeing view of your Blademaster, you’ll be able to kill at least one of those enemies immediately.
- Gear: Plated Vest, Overdrive Serum, Spider/Wraith Suit, Hazmat Vest
- Accessories: Laser Sight, Repeater, Hair Trigger, Conditioning, Perception, Speed
- Abilities: Blademaster, Untouchable, Reaper, Conceal, Shadowstep, Bladestorm, Slash
